WASHINGTON, June 20, 2024 – Networking For Future, Inc. (NFF), a Mid-Atlantic-based, performance-focused IT solutions provider, today shared that NFF successfully deployed a new smart city design solution at the Peach Road Cultural Center (PRCC) in Raleigh, North Carolina.  This solution was the first 100% wireless network utilizing smart streetlights to provide public Wi-Fi and environmental sensors to an underserved neighborhood.

NFF’s smart technology solution enables broadband connectivity through streetlights, promoting digital inclusivity by providing public Wi-Fi to those who need it the most and enabling enhanced public safety and environmental sustainability goals.   The solution includes environmental sensors to detect motion, noise levels, and ambient temperature, ensuring that the environment is always well-lit and provides a secure living space for all, and simultaneously supports additional smart technology applications like cameras, traffic congestion monitors, and real-time bus stop devices.

NFF pulled together a number of industry-leading technology partners including Signify, Cisco, Express Tek, and T-Mobile to effectively demonstrate how cities, businesses, and campuses can efficiently, securely, and cost-effectively deploy this 100% wireless Smart Technology solution.

Per John Holden, Smart City Manager for Raleigh,  “This project is one of the city’s Smart Raleigh pilot projects, focused on creating a smarter and more connected community. The City of Raleigh is making strides to create an extraordinary place to live, work, visit, and thrive for everyone.  This project enhances these efforts, and allows us to provide improved energy efficiency lighting, environmental sensors and provide a valuable Internet service to an underserved community at a time when it is needed most”.

Per Chris Peabody, Chief Strategy Officer for NFF, “Security and scale are the IoT’s most significant opportunity and hurdle. Removing the complications of accelerating public Internet access is key. This new solution provides robust, secure, and affordable Internet access in areas that are challenging to install fiber and provide digital services.  The solution is highly customizable and can be deployed at significantly lower cost and faster deployment times than traditional fiber solutions.  It checks a lot of boxes across our public sector, business, and education client goals to alleviate digital divide concerns, optimize energy use, increase sustainability efforts, and improve services to citizens, businesses, and students.
